About Brooklyn Crochet

Meet Yvonne Sloan Cherry

I’m Yvonne Cherry. I’m a Published Crochet Designer, Certified Crochet Instructor, Certified Crochet By Numbers Instructor, Community TV Producer, and founder of BROOKLYN CROCHET and Brooklyn Crochet Connection – Making A Difference One Stitch At A Time.

On this site you will find my crochet patterns, classes that I have available, post with information and tips on crochet and yarn, as well as, clips from my Crochet Television Show, and the Brooklyn Crochet YouTube Channel.

Double Dutch & Double Crochet

I returned to crocheting for therapy a skill I was taught as a child by my Grandmother, Sarah Reed, whom we called Mema,  while I was living in Maryland,  And began co- hosting a knitting and crochet circle with Mrs. Ruth Bolden, the manager of the Sojourner Truth, library in Prince George County. She she began to mentor me on ways to sell my crochet garments and bags. The ladies would call me “Brooklyn” at the knitting and crochet circle, this led to the creation of Brooklyn Crochet and Brooklyn Crochet Connection

Before that, I was the Office Manager for Connecticut’s only professional choir, Connecticut Choral Artists (Concora), a board member of the Art League of New Britain. I loved my career as a Double Dutch Coach of Massachusetts and Connecticut State Champions teams, The Worcester Jazz Double Dutch Team, the Connecticut Roosevelt Middle School Chargers and the New Britain Jammin’ Jumpers, and Assistant Coach to the World Championship team based out of Brooklyn, New York – Ruth Payne’s Jammin’ Jumpers.

I suffered an electrical accident at the New Britain Boys & Girls Club, while coaching double Dutch, and the doctor said I could never work another day in my life.
